Bengaluru, Sep 15 (IANS) Four golfers from Bengaluru and one from Delhi, earned the rights to represent India at the World Amateur Golfers Championship (WAGC) in Borneo, Malaysia, in late October, as the 11th Karnataka Golf Festival (KGF) concluded at the Karnataka Golf Association (KGA) course here on Sunday.

The annual marquee event, celebrating a decade of success this year, is supported by Karnataka tourism and is South India's largest participative amateur golf championship.

Over 500 golfers participated at the KGF this year with more than 100 outstation golfers from 16 cities and towns of India. Among the star names that participated in the tournament included former India cricketers Karun Nair, Subramaniam Badrinath, Sujith Somasunder, along with Lakshmipathy Balaji and Venkatesh Prasad.

On the concluding Sunday of the four-day 11th KGF, Narender Kudwa won the 21-24 handicap category with a gross score of 40, while Sandeep Malhan (16-20, 41 points), M.K. Aiyappa (11-15, 41 points), Amit Khansaheb (6-10, 40 points) and David D'Souza (0-5, 33 points) emerged as the overall winners determined across four days on the basis of the modified stableford format.

The results were declared at the closing of the KGF.

Speaking on the successful completion of the event, Sumit Rathor, Director, Indo-Mim, said: "In continuing support of the relationship that began with the successful Bengaluru Open earlier this year, Indo MIM is proud to associate with KGA yet again to host the 11th edition of the Karnataka Golf Festival. Golf and business have always enjoyed a close interrelation, and we have invited 500 golfers and businessmen alike from all over the country and world."

"Several sponsors of the tournament, including functional fitness brand Multifit and brand communications agency Sumit Rathor Consulting, proudly showcased their government- approved 'Make in India' status. We hope to encourage this relationship between game-makers in sport and business for time to come", he added.
