Shimla, Jan 8 (IANS) Trade unions held protests in Shimla and other parts of BJP-ruled Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday despite heavy snowfall and rainfall.
In the state capital, trade unions led by CITU state President Vijendra Mehra staged a protest and raised slogans against the Central government. CPI-M legislator Rakesh Singha and Mehra addressed the gathering.
Banks and commercial establishments were largely open while shops in some towns were closed for sometime on the pan-India protest call.
However, there was no report of traffic being held up due to the strike. There was also no report of violence anywhere, police officials here said.
The impact of the shutdown was more in the state capital and in the Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh industrial area in Solan district and Kala Amb in Sirmaur.
There was a partial shutdown in Solan, Rampur, Dharamsala, Kangra, Palampur, Mandi, Rampur, Kullu and Una and Hamirpur towns.
