Gurugram, Feb 3 (IANS) To curb vehicular accidents, the district administration has decided to fix blind spots on roads in and around the city. Prashant Pawar, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Gurugram, has asked officials to submit reports on blind spots.
"On the basis of reports, we will do physical verification and remove obstructions. Road safety is our utmost priority to minimise loss of lives," Pawar said.
Officials have identified 90 such spots spread over 166 km in different parts of the district under the Haryana Vision Zero (HZV), a campaign aimed at reducing road fatalities.
Blind spots, identified on the Delhi-Jaipur highway, Gurugram-Alwar road, southern peripheral road, state highway 15A, CRPF camp road and MDR 137, included sharp curves, trees and monuments that block the view causing accidents.
Pawar has said illegal cut at Khandsa village on NH 8, non-functional high-mast lights at the Delhi-Gurugram border, blind spots on Rajiv Chowk, Exit No 16 on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway, Hero Honda Chowk, Sector 15, Atlas Chowk, Pachgaon Chowk, Bilaspur Chowk should be removed the earliest.
Faulty design of exit points at several places, like sector 31 (exit 8), Udyog Vihar and Rajiv Chowk (exit 10), causes bumper-to-bumper traffic and obstructs smooth movement on main carriageway.
"To fix them, we have decided to install signboards, blinkers, reflective tapes and zebra crossing, etc, to warn motorists, especially during low visibility periods and at night," Pawar said.
At Rajiv Chowk, the starting point of the flyover from Jaipur to Delhi, which allows free access to motorists to the main carriageway requires a very sharp turn. Besides, motorists travel from both directions, causing accidents. The place lacks cautionary signs and travel direction signages.
At Hans Enclave, another spot on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway, adjacent to Rajiv Chowk on the Delhi-to-Jaipur road, there too is a sharp curve that blocks drivers' view. Auto-rickshaws also stop at the spot to pick up passengers, stepping off a pedestrian bridge. There is no signboard at the place and no traffic marshals deployed to fine offenders.
Narsinghpur is another such place between Hero Honda Chowk flyover and Kherki Daula toll plaza on NH 48. Pedestrians frequently cross the highway at this place, risking their as well as others lives.
