He said the shutdown has been ordered to facilitate active tracing and surveillance amid rising coronavirus cases.

As many as 70 medical teams have been formed for detailed screening in the city.

Barring medical shops and milk delivery, no other activities are allowed, said Kulange.

Out of total 5,962 COVID-19 positive cases in Odisha, Ganjam district has recorded highest of 1,088 positive cases and eight deaths so far.

Meanwhile, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials on Thursday carried out surprise visits to 10 private hospitals in the capital city to check their adherence to Covid-19 guidelines.

With an increase in number of infection among health workers, the Health Department has framed guideline for all private hospitals as a measure for infection prevention and control practice.
