Srinagar, June 28 (IANS) The mother of a slain terrorist in Kashmir has been arrested under the UAPA for posing with a rifle and for allegedly recruiting terrorists.

According to a police statement, Naseema Banoo, the mother of slain terrorist Tawseef, was arrested on June 20 in a criminal case under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

The police statement said that the arrest was done in compliance of provisions of law and she has been under legally sanctioned custody in the women's police station in Anantnag since her arrest.

"The arrested person is involved in a serious criminal case. The photo of the arrested woman in which she is totting an automatic weapon and posing next to her son who was an active militant at that time speaks it all. The photo is just the beginning of her criminal involvements.

"She is involved in much more serious offences and her role has surfaced in recruiting at least two youth into militant ranks, arranging arms and ammunition, communication and logistics for militants and terror organisations," the statement said.

The statement said that just because she happens to be a woman or the mother of a slain terrorist does not make her immune to arrest.

"JKP do not target family of terrorists without evidence. Sister of active terrorist Abbas Sheikh and mother of killed terrorist Tausif, Naseema Banoo was arrested on 20 June 2020 in FIR 30/2018. Besides recent involvement in recruiting youth into terrorist ranks: IGP Kashmir," Kashmir Police tweeted.
