Brisbane, June 29 (IANS) A-League side Brisbane Roar on Monday announced head coach Robbie Fowler won't return to take charge of the club when the league resumes next month following the enforced break.

Fowler, along with his assistant Tony Grant, had returned to England in March when the league was suspended in the wake of coronavirus pandemic.

"Robbie has not only provided stability but a refreshing injection of knowledge and insight into the Roar," Deputy Charming Chris Fong was quoted as saying in the statement uploaded the club's Twitter handle.

"We are disappointed that the global pandemic has impacted our plans together but completely understand that family comes first during these difficult times."

The former Liverpool striker was appointed Brisbane's head coach in April 2019 and played an important role in reviving the club's fortunes during the campaign.

"On behalf of myself and Tony, I would like to thank the club for the opportunity, and the Brisbane Roar FC fans for the warm welcome and support for me and the team. We are very proud of what we achieved," Fowler was quoted as saying in the statement.

The club also said that announcements on the now vacant head coach position and appointment process will be made at the conclusion of the 2019/2020 season, which is currently set to resume on July 16.
