Gurugram, July 3 (IANS) The Gurugram authorities are making efforts to trace 270 persons who could to be infected by coronavirus, an official said on Friday.

Gurugram DCP (Headquarters) Nikita Gahlawat said that the city Municipal Corporation had given police a list of nearly 1,500 suspected corona patients, of which around 1,200 have been traced till now.

Around 270 persons had given wrong phone numbers and residential addresses during initial testing and remain untraced till date. "The Gurugram police is making efforts to trace them out," she said.

The DCP said that Gurugram police had contacted around 5,000 persons as part of contact-tracing since the lockdown in March and also carried out physical verification of some suspected cases since they did not answer phone calls. "Our officials counselled 1,000 suspected patients to reply to our phone calls and give their exact health details," Gahlawat said.

"We have deployed 2,000 police personnel on Covid-19 duty while another 2,000 are on standby. As many as 80 policemen have been infected while performing Covid-19 duty, including one death. A majority of these men have since recuperated and only 14 remain in hospitals," She said.

The DCP said that the Gurugram police had issued challans to 6,000 offenders for not wearing face masks in public places.

"Following the launch of free rapid antigen test, suspected patients are coming forward for the same. We have conducted 2,000 such tests so far at different centres allocated by the Health Department," District Magistrate Amit Khatri said.

"The district's recovery rate is 77%, with only 1,183 active cases. Of these, 755 are in home isolation," Khatri said.

Divisional Commissioner Ashok Sangwan emphasized on contact tracing on a war-footing.

"In the last few days, some patients came out when critically ill and in the last stage of Covid-19. It becomes extremely difficult for health officials to save lives of such patients. We appeal to all infected persons to come forward when the disease is still at an early stage and undergo the free tests," he added.
