New Delhi, Aug 12 (IANS) The nationwide relaxations in lockdown and re-opening of critical industries have paved the way for a marginal recovery of five per cent in hiring activities in July compared to June, Naukri.com said on Wednesday.

However, compared to the same month a year ago, hiring activity is still down by 47 per cent in July of this year due to the Covid-19 disruptions, according to the Naukri JobSpeak Index for July.

Industries such as hotel, restaurant, airlines, travel, retail, real estate and oil & gas, and power continue to struggle in the month of July compared to the same month last year, said the report.

However, key sectors like BPO/IT enabled Services (ITeS), fast-moving consumer goods, pharma/biotech, IT-hardware and medical/healthcare were least impacted in hiring in July compared to last year.

"July'20 marks marginal recovery in month-on-month hiring activities. Industries such as recruitment /employment, media/entertainment and construction/engineering bounce back with positive signs in hiring month-over-month as lockdown restrictions are eased further," Pawan Goyal, Chief Business Officer, Naukri.com, said in a statement.

"While the year-over-year hiring is still impacted leading to a decline of 47 per cent in July' 20, it is interesting to see emerging cities leading the way in job market recovery versus metros which are declining by more than 50 per cent," Goyal added.

The report showed that hiring activity in metros declined more than the national average ? 50 per cent vs 47 per cent.

Metro cities such as Chennai, Mumbai and Bengaluru led the decline in hiring, while smaller cities such as Chandigarh, Jaipur and Kochi were least impacted.

Recruitment across the board declined at varied experience levels with the entry-level experience bands witnessing the sharpest decline of 51 per cent.

The Naukri JobSpeak is a monthly index that calculates and records hiring activity based on the job listings on Naukri.com website month on month.
